Reekfish

""That's a reekfish ( _ inches)! This sacred fish is only found near the Zora village. It... reeks."
Twilight Princess, in-game description

Reekfish are a species of Pacific salmon which inhabit Zora's Domain near Hyrule. They are sacred to the Ocean Zora people, and common prey for the local Yeti. Their sacred nature is stated as being due to the species having many nutrients, which leaves them being revered and well-cared for by the local Zoras. Given their proximity to the Ocean Zora, likely are consumed by them, as well, especially considering that the Ocean Zora have developed or at least keep in stock special lures meant for catching these fish. Reekfish are apparently very sacred to the Zora, and are very large in size, second only to the Hylian Loach.

Although their relatives transform into the hooked face appearance over time during their one and only mating session, it appears that Reekfish retain this appearance throughout at least most of their lives. This form resembles the mating form of their close cousins, the Sockeye Salmon, possessing reddened and green skin. Unlike Sockeyes or other species of Pacific salmon, however, Reekfish begin to emit a powerful odor, possibly as a deterrent against water-based predators. They can grow to sizes far larger than most other salmon, growing to lengths at least equal to an average Hylian or Human, though these large fish appear to be far less common than those smaller.

They are occasionally caught as sports fish. During sports fishing, fishermen must use special coral lures, and Reekfish will ignore all other bait and lures, making them somewhat difficult to catch. Unfortunately, catching these fish has left the Yetis and the Ocean Zora at odds, as the Yeti tend to raid the Domain specifically to retrieve the fish.

Reekfish can also be used to make a soup, known to be cooked by Yetis. It would seem that the larger specimens are the preferred size for adding to these recipes, however.
